Winery Daniel Sigmund - where culture and passion meet each other

Young. Dynamic. Exceptional. These are the three words Daniel uses to describe his winery, founded in 2021 and built on a deep passion for wine and the landscape that shapes it.
Together with his mother, Daniel cultivates three hectares of vineyards on the steep slopes of the region, growing the grape varieties Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Portugieser. The unique conditions of the Eisack Valley, characterised by a diverse geological composition including quartz, phyllite and granite, as well as elevations ranging from 600 to 820 metres above sea level, give the wines their distinctive character.
One of the winery’s special features is the flock of sheep grazing between the vineyard rows. This traditional practice promotes soil biodiversity and healthy soil life – an approach that was commonplace a century ago and is now considered a remarkable rarity. The sheep naturally support biodiversity throughout the vineyards and contribute to a balanced ecosystem.
The winery is organically certified and relies exclusively on natural cultivation methods. As a small family-run business, Daniel pays close attention to every detail to ensure the quality and uniqueness of his wines. This dedication is reflected in the passion, care and craftsmanship that go into every bottle.
But how did Daniel discover his passion for organic viticulture? During his studies at Laimburg, he met a friend who already had many years of experience in organic farming. Inspired by his enthusiasm, Daniel began experimenting with organic methods himself.
“The first two years were naturally quite challenging. Growth slowed down at first, but the vines gradually became more resilient on their own. Now, in the third and fourth year, things are working much better because we have gained experience and have been able to exchange knowledge with other winegrowers,” says Daniel.

“Ethical Banking has been a great support to me and has enabled me to live my dream. Through the loan, I was able to purchase the essential equipment and containers needed for winemaking, while also investing in new vineyard plantings,” says Daniel Sigmund.
