Widmannhof. Georg Fischer:
Our traditional listed farm is located in Klerant, a small village near St. Andrä, close to Brixen and at the foot of our local mountain, the Plose. The Widmannhof has a long and fascinating history. The first written record of the farm, then known as “Widenhof”, dates back to 1356. Its rich heritage can still be seen today in the beautifully preserved farmhouse parlour with its late Gothic wooden ceiling and in the impressive groin-vaulted entrance hall. Since 1774, the farm has been passed down within the Fischer family from one generation to the next. In 1983, the Province of South Tyrol officially recognised the Widmannhof as an “Erbhof”, a hereditary farm of historic significance. We farm organically by conviction and with great passion. Our dairy cows graze on lush alpine meadows during the summer months and are fed fragrant hay throughout the winter.
Until 1978, agriculture was the farm’s only source of income. That year, the first guest rooms were created to establish a second source of revenue. What began as bed and breakfast accommodation later evolved into holiday apartments. One of the family’s proudest achievements is the careful conversion of the old barn, which now houses a cosy wellness area with a sauna, a traditional guest lounge and two holiday apartments.
Today, the Widmannhof is run with great dedication by my wife Christa and me, with our children Julia, Katrin and Stefan also playing an active role on the farm. As a farm specialising in riding holidays, we keep gentle Haflinger horses, riding horses and Shetland ponies. For our youngest guests, we offer safe, guided pony rides and accompany them through their very first riding experiences in our riding arena.
The funded project
“In 2008, we installed our new photovoltaic system. As we needed a loan to finance the investment, our local Raiffeisen bank offered us the opportunity to benefit from an affordable Ethical Banking development loan under the Renewable Energy programme. Today, we are able to cover almost 95% of the farm’s electricity needs with our photovoltaic system, and it gives us a good feeling to generate our energy in such an environmentally friendly way.”Widmannhof
“I would like to thank the Raiffeisen bank for giving us the opportunity to benefit from an Ethical Banking loan, which has been a great help to us.”
