Bachguterhof. Franz Laimer:

The Bachguterhof has been owned by the Laimer family since 1913. In 1998, our family decided to convert the farm to organic agriculture in accordance with the Bioland standards.
In the early years, the farm focused exclusively on growing apples and grapes. Over time, however, our perspective on monoculture changed, and we consciously embraced greater biodiversity and more sustainable farming practices. Today, we produce high-quality organic fruit and vegetables, placing particular emphasis on mixed cropping, a wide diversity of varieties and species, and cultivating plants that are naturally resilient to disease.
Our farm covers 2.25 hectares of agricultural land, divided into four separate plots. The smallest plot is located next to the farmhouse in Dorf Tirol and includes our family home with two holiday apartments, the farm building, and several shelters for our animals.
The second plot is situated just a short distance from the farm. It features a polytunnel and a large part of our vegetable gardens. Apples and pears grow alongside stone fruit and berries, creating a diverse and productive landscape.
A little further downhill lies our orchard. Our vineyard, the fourth plot, enjoys a sunny, steep location opposite Brunnenburg Castle and Tyrol Castle. In addition to grapevines, these sun-drenched terraces are home to various stone and pome fruit trees, chestnut trees, as well as several fig and olive trees. A number of our beehives are also located here.
Most of our fields are bordered by hedgerows, which provide natural boundaries, protection from the wind, food and habitat for birds and insects, and, in some areas, a buffer against pesticides used in conventional agriculture.
In addition to farming, we also run a Bioland-certified apiary. One of our main goals is to produce healthy food while achieving the highest possible degree of self-sufficiency.
