Permanent Exhibition Glashaus III. Martina Schullian:

From the earliest advanced civilisations to the present day, horticulture has been both a captivatingly beautiful and down-to-earth expression of human work in and with nature. The permanent exhibition “Glashaus III” takes visitors on a journey through the history and stories of horticultural culture in South Tyrol.
The exhibition invites visitors to stroll through a piece of cultural and economic history, reflecting what gardens and nurseries have always represented: places to observe and marvel, to pause and wander, to smell and discover plants and their unique characteristics, as well as sources of inspiration for one’s own garden, balcony or herb collection at home.
The exhibition is dedicated to the lifelong work of a passionate gardener: Franz Schullian (*1922), who, together with important companions, was one of the pioneers of horticulture in South Tyrol. In 1948, he founded his own nursery almost from nothing, which he moved to the outskirts of Bolzano in 1956 – the current location of the Schullian nursery. Glashaus III, named after its internal numbering, dates back to this period.
Today, the business is run by his daughter Martina Schullian, who for many years has enriched horticulture through her cultural commitment. Beyond its economic importance, her nursery has become a place of encounter, beauty, inspiration, dreams and reflection.
This also gave rise to the idea of creating a permanent exhibition in Glashaus III (the concept was developed by artist Paul Thuile), the last greenhouse of its kind in South Tyrol. Objects and historical photographs, texts, videos and interviews guide visitors through the history of horticultural culture. The exhibition also tells the stories of the ten oldest and most important nurseries in South Tyrol and presents the key local figures who have shaped its development over the past 60 years.
