Thomas Egger:

Not long ago, I fulfilled a long-held dream for myself and my family by creating a sustainable energy and housing concept in St. Pankraz, Ulten Valley. In addition to our own home, the project includes two unique holiday houses.
Having worked in the environmental and energy sector for many years, I was able to bring the necessary expertise to the project. From the very beginning, the entire development was based on three guiding principles: sustainability, local value creation and innovation.
All construction work was carried out by local craftsmen from the valley, while all the timber used came from the nearby Laugenhof. During construction, every effort was made to adapt the buildings to the natural terrain and surrounding landscape without major earthworks. The result is a home that almost feels like a treehouse.
The energy concept is equally innovative. The entire energy supply is based on 100% local renewable resources and the latest electricity storage technology, including a charging station for an electric vehicle.
My experience with the electric car has also been extremely positive. It is quiet, enjoyable to drive and makes even short journeys feel like a sustainable choice. While its range is naturally not unlimited, a small adjustment in driving habits is all it takes, and today I can complete almost 80% of all my journeys using the electric car.
Alongside the three residential units, we are also expanding and further developing the organic cultivation of the remaining land. Part of the property is used to grow specialty crops such as currants, blueberries and lingonberries. The land has been certified according to Bioland standards for many years, and our plan for the future is to process these products ourselves and sell them directly to guests and through farm-gate sales.
