The funds provided through Ethical Banking were used for the energetic reconstruction of an apartment in the centre of Mals. The apartment is located in the PANTELHAUS, a former manor house of the Counts of Trapp that is over a century old.
Mineral wool insulation boards were used for the external insulation, and the windows were replaced with new Thermo Royal Plus windows. In addition, all ceilings were newly insulated. The heating system is connected to the district heating network. As the north and west façades are historically protected, traditional wooden crossbar windows were installed there, preserving the building’s original appearance.
It was particularly important to the owner to commission local construction companies in order to support the regional economy. Great care was also taken to use locally sourced building materials, such as regional timber for the floors and roof and Plima stone from the Martell Valley for the bathrooms, thereby keeping transport-related CO₂ emissions to a minimum.
Another key objective was to restore and revitalise an existing historic building in the centre of Mals, preserving valuable undeveloped land. The revitalisation of town centres is of great importance for the local economy, retail businesses, tourism and the hospitality sector.
The result of this energetic reconstruction is the professional restoration of a historic building to ClimateHouse B standard and the creation of a unique residential unit in the heart of Mals.
